Is there a laundry service?
All regular, personal laundry is done on the premises on a daily basis.
What should I bring with me into the home?
Each resident is entitled to bring into the home their favourite and necessary items. Everything that is brought into the home must not interfere with the care program of the service or pose any unacceptable risk to people and property. Please contact our staff if you are unsure of any items you may wish to bring. The home provides the bed, mattress and linen for each resident.
What are the visiting hours and conditions?
Relatives and friends are welcome at any time, however you will need an access card to and from Sherwin Wing. It is recommended that families purchase a card for a small, refundable fee from reception, which will enable them to visit at any time. If access is required after hours and you have forgotten your card, you can ring the front door-bell for staff to open the door. Irregular visitors can sign in at reception to receive a temporary access card.
Can I leave the home for outings?
Yes! Outings are encouraged as much as possible. If relatives are taking a resident out on a day outing, please inform the care staff of the expected time of departure and return.
What is the food like?
All our meals are prepared and cooked on the premises by our dedicated hotpitality staff. A wide variety of fresh vegetables, grains, legumes and fruits are used in our vegetarian meals. We do try to cater for special diets and personal preferences. Fish is available on Thursdays, and on some occasions a chicken option is available.
All meals are served in the main dining room of Sherwin Wing. When a resident is unwell or too frail meals are delivered to their room. Staff will remind residents to attend meals at the appropriate times.
Where do I seek spiritural support?
At Adventist Care our resident chaplain is available to you and your families. Each resident is also able to be visited by the clergy of their choice. Worship services are conducted in the chapel and can be viewed via the closed circuit TV by those residents who are unable to attend.
Our residents can receive spiritual support by speaking to any of our caring staff who will notify our chaplain.
Can I smoke or drink alcohol on campus?
Adventist Care - Rossmoyne is a smoke free campus. Smoking is not permissible within Adventist Care buildings or grounds by residents, staff or visitors.
Similarly, Adventist Care - Rossmoyne is an alcohol free campus.
How do I get my medications?
Adventist Care has a close relationship with the local pharmacy. Residents are able to have all their prescribed medications sourced, at their own cost.
What type of medical assistance is available?
Adventist Care - Rossmoyne engages a multi-disciplinary approach to the care of the residents. Residents are central to all care offered and to this end, they are actively encouraged to have an input into the planning and implementation of the services and care provided. The following is a list of services provided.
Medical Practitioner: Residents are encouraged to have a General Practitioner (doctor) of their choice. It is recommended that residents choose a doctor that will attend the home and be able to discuss care needs with the clinical staff. If help is needed the Aged Care Facility Manager is available to advise.
Personal Care Staff: Adventist Care - Rossmoyne provides 24 hour personal care staff, such as Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses and Nursing Care Assistants. Nursing Staff assist and/or supervise residents with all activities of daily living as assessed and monitored on a day to day basis.
All residents have a daily care plan into which input from the resident and/or relatives is encouraged. Please feel welcome to discuss any aspects of resident care with the Clinical Nurse.
All staff engage in regular in-service and training conducted within Adventist Care - Rossmoyne and at off-site workshops.
Podiatry: Residents are attended to bi-monthly by the visiting podiatrist.
Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy: All residents are comprehensively assessed by the therapy staff. Residents, and where necessary their families, are consulted regarding personal preferences and care needs, these are taken into consideration when activity, therapy group and individual programs are being developed.
Optical and Auditory Appointments: Where possible, residents are encouraged to maintain their previous specialist. A resident's medical practitioner can also refer you to another specialist of your choice.
Transfer to Hospital: There will be times when residents require treatment both acute and chronic which is not available at Adventist Care - Rossmoyne. When this occurs residents and their families will be fully informed.
Dental Care: Residents are encouraged to have regular dental check-ups to ensure that their teeth, gums and dentures are in optimum condition. Residents are offered a yearly dental screening by the government dental services. A private dental service is also available to visit the facility. Referrals to other facilities can be arranged.

Do I have security of tenure?
Security of tenure at Adventist Care - Rossmoyne is supported by the Residential Agreement which is offered to all residents. In accordance with Government rules residents are entitled to 52 days of social leave per financial year (1 July - 30 June) and unlimited hospital leave.
Please be assured that tenure may be questioned if the resident is absent without notice for an extended period, the behaviour and/or care needs of the resident is beyond the home’s capacity or fees are not paid.
What happens if I leave or pass on?
If you have paid a Refundable Accommodation Deposit on entry to Adventist Care and have not drawn down any payments against it then yes, all monies paid for your accommodation will be refunded in the event of your death or in the event of you leaving the facility for any reason.
