What will it cost me?

The Commonwealth Department of Social Services establishes the residency fees, which are determined by a resident’s assets and income.

The fees do not cover optional items and prescription medications. (Specific details are available upon request.) We send out a fortnightly bill to each resident to ensure their accounts are minimised.

The Government Charge Schedule can be found on the Australian Department of Social Services website.

Fee breakdown

There are three types of fees that an aged care resident may be asked to pay at Adventist Care.

1. Accommodation Cost
This is for your accommodation in the home. Some people will have their accommodation costs met in full or part by the Australian Government, while others will need to pay the accommodation price agreed with Adventist Care. These costs range from $265,000 to $450,000 per room. The Department of Human Services (Centrelink) will advise you which applies to you based on an assessment of your income and assets.

2. Basic Daily Fee
This covers living costs such as meals, power and laundry. For some people this is the only fee they are required to pay.

3. Care Cost Contribution (Means tested care fee)

This is an additional contribution towards the cost of care that some people may be required to pay. The Department of Human Services (Centrelink) will work out if you are required to pay this fee based on an assessment of your income and assets and will advise you of the amount.

Please visit the Australian Government Fee Estimator to get an estimate of the fees which may apply to you in aged care.

Residents are encouraged to manage their own financial affairs or appoint another person to do so.  In the case where there is no-one suitable to be appointed The Public Trustee can be contacted to act on the resident’s behalf.

How do I qualify to enter?

The Department of Social Services must approve a resident admission to a care facility in order for that resident to attract a Government care subsidy. A health assessment (ACAT/ACCR) by an authorised and qualified practioner, an Assests Declaration from Centrelink and a completed Pre-Entry Pack are all required before admission can occur.
